I’ve now plugged the cable for the “headphones” part of my headset into the audio jack on the side of my PC, and set that as the default audio device for Windows, and told Discord and Elgato Sound Capture to use the bluetooth headset part.

After much googling, I got it – Parsec always passes the audio from the Windows default audio device.Ĭracking. I figured it out! I’d been using my bluetooth headset as the default audio device for all sounds, including her voice via Discord/Sound Capture loop, and the Streamlabs game audio.

Last night when we streamed, the latter happened, and after 25 minutes of fudging about and rebooting my PC and settling on Rev muting Parsec, I decided it was the final straw. If we couldn’t resolve it, she’d just accept that she’d mute Parsec and lose the game audio. Historically, for no good reason, restarting Elgato Sound Capture resolves the issue and we carry on. However, occasionally she can hear herself. She also watches my Streamlabs window via Parsec, which works beautifully, and she also gets the game audio.

Rev calls me on Discord, and I pipe her audio into Streamlabs using the Elgato Sound Capture utility that came with the Game Capture HD software.

Meanwhile, I’m using a SteelSeries Arctis 3 bluetooth headset that also has an audio jack (it was designed for Switch and the companion mobile app), so it can also be used as headphones as well as a bluetooth headset. I don’t use the “out” function on the HD60S so I just watch and listen it in Streamlabs as it comes (audio for the HD60S is set to Monitor & Output). The most common, and avoidable, form of amplifier clipping occurs when an audio amplifier is driven beyond its ability to generate sufficient voltage or current to reproduce the original signal to your speakers.Oh my goodness, it took us so long to solve this, so I wanted to put it out there for other people that might be in the same position as us during the pandemic (and/or you don’t live near your gaming partner).Īn overview of the setup: I play games via my PC using the Elgato HD60S USB capture card. Generally speaking, the amplifier gain is not properly set or the volume is too high.

Damage can occur even when the amplifier is not at full output. It does not matter whether the mixer, amplifier, or any other piece of audio equipment clips the signal in the system. Can clipping damage amp?įacts about clipping: Any clipped signal can potentially damage a speaker.

Amp gains work the same way – too low, and the background noise, or “hiss” takes over Too high, and music becomes distorted even at a normal volume level. When it’s turned up too high, the other person sounds distorted and is difficult to comprehend. Setting the gain control sets the level of distortion in your tone, regardless of how loud the final volume is set. Your gain setting determines how hard you’re driving the preamp section of your amp. Which circuit is used to reduce the side tone?Īnti-sidetone circuit How does gain work? Sidetone (also known as microphone monitoring) allows you to control the amount of mic input that is routed back into your headset, so you can choose how much of your own voice and surroundings you hear. Many times those who are hearing impaired struggle while on the phone. For anyone who’s hearing impaired, having the ability to hear their voice adequately helps them to have a better chance at a normal phone conversation. Sidetone is important and even more so to those who are hearing imparied. If your ears are covered, you will be prone to speaking louder than necessary hearing your own voice in the speaker mitigates this. Sidetone is a feature that allows you to hear your own voice in the headset as you speak into the microphone. The sidetone noise level in a wireless or wired telephone, for example, is reduced by adjusting both noise and signal levels and/or by improving the signal-to-noise ratio of such signals. What is sidetone and how it is minimized? Clear the Listen to this device checkbox.Click the headset you would like to test, and then click the Properties button.Open the Sound window by clicking Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound (instructions vary depending on your Control Panel view).
